What is emotional intelligence and why is it critical for coaching? Research by Bradberry and Greaves (2009) suggests that emotional intelligence is the strongest predictor of successful job performance and that 90% of top performers are high in emotional intelligence—in all fields, at all levels, in every region of the world. Explore and apply our own emotional intelligence as coaches and learn to activate the emotional intelligence of our teachers. Work collaboratively to expand our understandings of the four domains of emotional intelligence and apply this knowledge to our real-school coaching conversation.
Outcomes include:
- learn coaching moves and language guided by a social-emotional lens during difficult coaching conversations with teachers who appear angry or frustrated
- examine how this might work in remote coaching situations
- apply our new understandings by working in small groups with real-life coaching scenarios
- deepen your understandings of the role that emotional intelligence plays in your work as a coach and give you practical language and moves that you can use every day.
