29 - Special Engagement: Words, Wounds, and Wholeness: ABAR Strategies for Word Comprehension
How do I know when to use the n-word? How do I know if a word is socially bad? Understanding language and the meaning of words can be tricky. There is the intended meaning of the word and then there’s the social meaning. Teaching young people how to use language properly, when to use it, and why it’s used in different ways are important reading skills. This is especially crucial when wanting to impart cultural and racial literacy that is embedded in their literacy and reading skill-building. In this session, participants will learn how to teach about words and meaning making using anti bias and anti racist strategies and books.
