Kayla Lewis, Ph.D., has been in the education field for over 20 years, with experience as a classroom teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, literacy coach, and university professor. She is currently a literacy professor at Missouri State University. Her research focuses on interventions for struggling readers, preservice teacher education, and culturally authentic Native American literature. She currently serves as the President-Elect of the Missouri Association of Reading Recovery Educators. Dr. Lewis has presented at state literacy conferences, a national education conference, and her tribe's national women's conference, The Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference.
